Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach complete beginners?

Yes, I have taught beginners of all ages. Although I can ensure that you never stay a beginner for long, we will have you playing along to your favourite songs in no time.

Do you teach children?

Yes, though from experience I find children younger than 7 tend to struggle with the guitar, so I recommend starting children off from the age of 7 and up. Half hour lessons each week tend to suit children best. Parents are more than welcome to sit in during the lesson if you so wish.

Where are you based?

I am based at The Music Rooms which is located on the High Street in Newton-Le-Willows. For more information on Lesson Prices you can visit: www.themusicrooms.co.uk

How long do the lessons last?

30 minutes per session is our usual and recommended time frame although if you have particular requirements then I’m happy to work around these. I find that attending a guitar lesson each week is the quickest way to learning and committing to the guitar.

Do you only teach guitar?

No, I also teach bass guitar and ukulele, the choice is yours.

Do you teach music theory?

Yes. Whether you’re looking to build on your current knowledge or prepping for a theory exam I’m here to help. I can take you through modern guitar based theory and through ABRSM Graded Books and exams.

What Styles of music do you teach?

In terms of genre’s I specialise in blues, rock, pop and classical guitar. However, I have experience playing and teaching in a huge variety of styles including;
Jazz, Gypsy Jazz, Fusion, Metal, Indie, Bebop,

Shred …and everything in between!

Do I need to own a guitar before I start my first lesson?

It is certainly worth getting your hands on a guitar to help you practise in between our lessons but it’s not essential. At the Music Rooms we have plenty of guitars for you to use during your lesson.

What happens if I have to cancel a lesson?

That is no problem at all, simply text or call me 3 days before and I would be more than happy to re-arrange our guitar lesson. Please note the The Music Rooms operates a 3 day cancelation policy, whereby if you cancel within 3 days of your lesson you will be charged the full price of the lesson.

Do I need to take guitar exams?

No. Many people just like to learn for fun which is fantastic. However, others may have more academic related goals which I am able to cater for. Whether its ABRSM Classical guitar exams or Rockschool Electric or Acoustic/Ukulele exams, I can help you achieve your goal by building realistic targets that you can work with and enjoy along the way
